Hero Clothing

October 21, 2008

Danny Batista. Hero Clothing advertisement. 2008. Danny Batista. San Antonio. October 20, 2008.

This image was chosen for a few reasons too. The owner and founder of Hero Clothing, Danny Batista is a close friend to my roommate. Danny 24, one day was just hanging with some friends, when someone jokingly said that he should start his own clothing company, due to his love of fashion. He laughed at first, but after thinking about it, he decided to give it a try. Long story short, Hero Clothing has been around for a couple of years now, and is a result of a young person that had a vision, followed his dream and is living it. Still small, Hero Clothing is becoming more and more popular, being worn by numerous surfers throughout the world at surfing competitions, the name is becoming known worldwide. I think it is just amazing how such a young person can be so ambitious and actually continued to follow his dream. I know, that nothing but good things are ahead for Danny and his company.

The Body of Christopher Creed

I chose this image for a number of reasons as well. In high school, my sophomore year, one of our assignments was to choose a book, read it, write a summary about it, then present it to the class, as sort of an advertisment, trying to get your classmates to want to buy/read it. Needless to say, I was very hesitant about the assignment, because I have never been a heavy reader. So when I was given the instructions, I was kind of taken by surprise, that I was going to have to read an entire book and give an in-depth presentation over it. I was initially going to be like a few of my classmates and look for notes on my book online and take information from them, but I started to ready this book and instantly feel in love. That was such a new feeling for me, because like mentioned before, I was not a reader, and I found myself actually on more than one occasion, not accepting invites to do something, because I wanted to stay home and continue reading this book. I found it very well written along with very entertaining. I am not ashamed to say, that this was my very first book that I actually read completely, and did not get bored with within the first few pages.

American Eagle Outfitters

I chose this image of the American Eagle Outfitters company logo for a number of reasons. American Eagle was my first job ever. As I moved to San Antonio after high school for college, I had to find a job to have some extra spending money. I pondered where to apply and thought about what I really wanted to do. So one day, while shopping and walking around the Shops of La Cantera, I was inside of AE and was approached by one of the managers that was working that day. He started talking to me and was asking me questions about myself and if I would ever be interested in working for AE. Long story short, I was hired and spent almost two years there, before quiting and pursuing another job. I met some of the important people in my life today at AE, including my current roommates as well as lifelong friends.

The Endless Summer

I chose this poster of The Endless Summer for a number of reasons. I have actually never seen this film which a documentary about some surfers who are on the search for the perfect wave. I was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. As you may or may not know, Corpus lies on the coast line of Texas bordering the Gulf of Mexico. That being said, I spent alot of my childhood on or around the beach, though the waves are not world known in Corpus, my friends and I would attempt to make the most of them and enjoyed them when we could. The second reason I chose this image is because my senior year of high school, I took Art I. One of our assignments was to paint or draw an image from a group of famous movie posters or literature. I saw this poster on the table and quickly chose it. So everytime I see this image I am always taken back to my senior year of high school when I spend so much time trying to draw this image, which was not a complete success might I add.
